New Mission and Mission Partner: Produce Market

June 6, 2017

On June 13th, CDPC hopes to be approved by the Mid-Ohio Foodbank for a new ministry.

The Mid-Ohio Foodbank has a mobile Produce Market in various communities.  We hope to be approved to host the New Concord Produce Market on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at a distribution time to be determined.  If all goes well, we should be able to begin the 2nd Wednesday of July.

The Produce Market is a year round, free distribution point for many types of fresh fruits and vegetables.  At these events, a Foodbank truck delivers at least 10,000 pounds of fresh produce and bread and bakery products to the community location.  About 200 families are served per market.  Any leftover food is taken away by the delivery truck.

CDPC doesn’t have enough room in our parking lot to host such a large and work-intensive Market.  So, we have partnered with New Concord United Methodist Church for the use of their south parking lot off of High Street.  This will make the Market close to the CDPC Pantry so that clients who use the pantry on the 2nd Wednesday can just make a short trip down the street to pick up produce.

The income guidelines for the Market are very generous.  Many people in our area would qualify!  If you know someone who could use the help, please let them know that the Produce Market is coming to town soon.  And stay tuned for more details.

Volunteers will be needed to help with distribution.  Please speak to Denise Baker (740) 826-4036 if you can help out.
